Mumbai Crime Branch Held 5 Associated With Dawood’s D Company

Guwahati: The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested five people on Tuesday who were connected to the D firm of wanted don Dawood Ibrahim in connection with an extortion case.

The Crime Branch’s Anti Extortion Cell made the arrests days after holding his close aide Salim Fruit.

Salim Fruit is also close friends with Riyaz Bhati and gangsters Chhota Shakeel.

Salim Fruit, an accused in an Rs 62 lakh extortion case and a relative of Chhota Shakeel, was taken into custody by Mumbai Crime Branch on October 1 after a judge ordered that he remain in Crime Branch custody until October 6.

Chhota Shakeel, a trusted associate to Dawood Ibrahim who was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in August, is married to Salim Fruit.

The arrest was made in a case involving D Company’s operations. On February 3, a suo moto lawsuit involving criminal or terrorist activity was filed.

The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch detained Riyaz Bhati on September 26 from the Andheri area In connection with the extortion case in connection with the extortion case. The next day, the Esplanade Court ordered him to be held in police custody till October 1.

According to reports, Bhati and former Mumbai Police head Param Bir Singh are both defendants in an extortion case filed at Mumbai’s Goregaon police station. Bhati initially went to the court after the lawsuit was filed, but the court denied the petition for anticipatory bail at that time as well.
