Delhi Police Detained AAP Gujarat Chief Gopal Italia
Guwahati: Gopal Italia, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Gujarat branch was detained by Delhi police at the NCW office in Delhi.
NCW chief Rekha Sharma summoned Italia over a controversial video, in which he was purportedly seen using derogatory language for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Workers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were spotted protesting earlier on Thursday outside Sharma’s office after the Commission called Gopal Italia, the leader of the AAP in Gujarat.
Italia allegedly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and made casteist comments on him.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra) has already criticised Italy for its remark.
“It is against the country’s democratic laws and disrespect to the country to refer to the prime minister as an inferior person. No one may be lowly regardless of caste or religion,” Patra had said at a press conference.
“What kind of insult is it when the OBC prime minister, who is from a humble family and a backward class, continuously calls him lowly? Does the Aam Aadmi Party intend to degrade those from the lower classes? The democratic process does not regard someone who emerges from a typical poor family to become prime minister as being beneath them. No, it violates democratic principles,” he had added.
“Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party are the ones who claimed to be here to alter India’s character. When the democratically elected, powerful, and hardworking Prime Minister is disparaged, as he does in the video multiple times, it reveals the mindset of the Aam Aadmi Party,” he had stated.
