Multiple Stabbings of An Indian Student In Sydney, Attacker Arrested

Guwahati: An Indian student from Agra who was stabbed numerous times in Sydney is now in a serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery at a local hospital.

According to the Australian High Commission in New Delhi the Indian Consulate in Sydney gave the person consular assistance. It also said that it was helping to facilitate a visa for a relative of the injured student, Shubham Garg.

According to reports, Daniel Norwood who was 27 years old has apparently been arrested by the Australian Police and is in custody as he stabbed the 28-year-old student who was pursuing his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of NSW.

According to the local media outlet The Australia Today, Daniel Norwood was arrested and transferred to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with one count of attempted murder.

The incident took place on October 6 at around 10.30 p.m. as Garg was walking down the Pacific Highway on his way back to his place of abode, according to accounts from the local media, which the outlet cited.
Garg sustained numerous stab wounds to his chest, abdomen, and face. Garg was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital by a local resident, where he underwent surgery. According to a source in the media, Garg’s health is still “severe but stable.”

Strike Force Prosy was established by the investigators from the North Shore Police Area Command to look into the event. On October 9, around 3.40 pm, a search warrant was later carried out at a residence on the Pacific Highway in Greenwich.

The policeapprehended the suspect Norwood on the spot and took several items from the house as part of their ongoing investigation. The goods were delivered for forensic analysis.
Norwood appeared in Hornsby Local Court, but his application for bail was rejected. He is still being held until his next court date on December 14, 2022.

According to reports, Norwood demanded money and Shubham’s phone while threatening him. Shubham allegedly suffered multiple abdominal stab wounds after refusing. The attacker then left the scene of the incident, according to The Australia Today.

For the purpose of pursuing his PhD in Mechanical engineering at the University of NSW, Shubham Garg arrived in Australia in September of this year. At IIT Madras, he earned his master’s degree.
