Assam: President Murmu Lays Foundation Stones of Various Projects in Guwahati

Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu essentially launched or laid the cornerstones for the various projects of the Government of Assam from Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on Friday.

These include the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Railhead Depot at Moinarbond, Silchar, two highway projects, 100 model secondary schools in Assam’s tea garden regions, 3000 model Anganwadi centres, two highway projects, and a contemporary cargo/coaching terminal at Aghtori, Guwahati. A train from Guwahati to Lumding Pass up to Shokhuvi (Nagaland) and Mandipathar was also flagged off by the President (Meghalaya).

Addressing the gathering, the President wished the initiatives launched today in the areas of health, education, railways, road building, petroleum, and women’s empowerment success. She expressed optimism that the effective implementation of these plans would boost Assam’s economy, create new prospects for employment and enterprise, improve transportation, and build transportation infrastructure.

The President said that better infrastructure is the basis of development of any state.The focal point of India’s “Act East Policy” is the North-Eastern Region. She was pleased to see that the connectivity and infrastructure in this area are receiving special attention from the central government. She claimed that Assam’s growth might serve as the North Eastern Region’s regional development engine.

Murmu added that the region of the North East is rich in natural resources. She mentioned that Assam produces 13% of all crude oil produced in India. Also, the North Eastern Region accounts for 15% of all natural gas production in India. She expressed optimism that the cutting-edge Moinarband depot, which was officially opened today, will contribute to addressing the needs for petroleum products in the entire Barak Valley as well as in Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram.

She said that the Assam-specific road and rail connection in all of the North Eastern states is receiving special attention from the Central Government. She expressed optimism that several road and railroad projects, whose foundation stones had been placed or who had been launched, would improve trade and transportation in the area while also increasing tourism potential.

The President said that the safety and overall development of women and children is a sign of a civilised society. The establishment of 3000 Model Anganwadi Centers, which were officially opened today, will help Assam’s numerous services for women and children to become even stronger. She also expressed her joy over the laying of the cornerstones for 100 model secondary schools, which were built with the intention of giving children of tea garden workers a better education.
