Prez Droupadi Murmu: Touched at Being Called Daughter of Assam
Guwahati: President Droupadi Murmu expressed her gratitude for Himanta Biswa Sarma’s kind gesture of referring to her as a “daughter of the state” and making her feel at home on Friday.
Murmu praised the Assam government for its numerous development initiatives, particularly for tea workers and for the empowerment of women.
She mentioned this after launching and setting the cornerstones for numerous federal and state government initiatives via virtual mode at a programme here. The Center is also doing its part by enhancing infrastructure, communications, and all other areas.
“I must thank the chief minister for calling me a ‘daughter of the state’ at the civic reception last night. It has touched my heart. The welcome I have received here has made me feel at home and I will return soon,” the President said on the concluding day of her two-day maiden trip to Assam after assuming office.
Murmu laid the virtual cornerstones for 100 model secondary schools in tea garden areas during the programme, praising the state government’s endeavours for the advancement of tea garden workers.
The president claimed that when she first met some of the day’s tea garden employees, they were pleased with the government’s efforts to improve education at the primary and secondary levels.
She praised measures for women’s empowerment and noted the 3000 model Angwandai Centers, whose foundation she set, as a step in that direction, stating that a society that respects its women is seen to be civilised.
