Assam Ranks 3rd in Terms of Murder Rate
Guwahati: Assam has ranked third in terms of the nation’s murder rate in 2021.
According to information by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), Assam recorded 1269 murder cases in total in 2021 or a rate of 3.4 percent.
Haryana is in second place with a murder rate of 3.8 percent, followed by Jharkhand with a murder rate of 4.1 percent.
The number of crimes per lakh people is used to compute the murder rate.
The NCRB reports that the average annual murder rate across the country was 2.2% in 2021.
According to the study, Assam had 3558 murder cases reported between 2019 and 2021.
The Assam police recorded 1192 murder cases in total in 2021.
The figures show that there were unknown motives in 536 of the state’s murder cases, which was the greatest amount ever.
During this time, a total of 311 murders, 227 conflicts and 105 property or land disputes were all the result of “personal revenge or hostility.”
Additionally, nine dowry murders were reported in the state last year.
