120 Public Servants Held In Last 6 Years in Assam

Guwahati: The Assam Police have arrested 130 suspects, including 120 public employees in the previous six years, as part of their fight against corruption.

According to the data of Assam Police, from 2017 to October 19 this year, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption nabbed 120 public employees and 10 middlemen red-handed while they were accepting bribes at various government offices throughout the state.

Assam’s Special Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, reported that 130 people were detained and 107 cases were filed during the course of the time period.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption apprehended 50 people, including 48 government personnel, while they were accepting bribes this year up to October 19.

“Eleven government employees were arrested in 2017, 22 persons including 19 public servants arrested in 2018, 16 persons including 13 public servants arrested in 2019, 18 persons including 16 public servants arrested in 2020, 13 public servants were arrested in 2021,” DGP Singh said.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-sleuths, Corruption’s on the other hand, have arrested 63 people, including 61 government workers, since Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed office as Assam’s Chief Minister on May 10 of last year.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has filed charge sheets in 76 cases during the course of the time period.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared that a zero tolerance policy will be maintained in the fight against corruption.

On October 19, investigators from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Dibrugarh were caught in the act and detained for bribery with one government worker and a tout.
