Heroin Worth Over Rs 28 Crore Seized During Separate Ops
Guwahati: Over 5.6 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 28 crore were seized by Mizoram police from four separate locations along the Myanmar border in the Champhai district.
As many as six persons, including a woman from Myanmar, were arrested in relation to the seizure.
On Wednesday night, the police said that more than 5.4 kilograms of heroin was recovered from a vehicle near Tuipui village, about 20 km from Champhai town.
A 22-year-old woman and her male friend were detained for having illegal substances in Zokhawthar, the first Myanmar border settlement on the Mizoram side.
In a different incident, police officers stationed at Khankawn check gate, roughly 100 miles from Champhai, found and confiscated 24 grammes of heroin that had been hidden inside two soap cases.
A 28-year-old lady from Myanmar and a local street vendor were detained in connection with it.
The two street vendors reportedly came from Zokhawthar and had concealed the contraband within puffcorn packets.
At the Khankawn check gate, another shipment of heroin, weighing 24 grammes, was taken from a street vendor.
On Thursday morning, 156 grams of heroin were also found in a car in the Vengsang area of Champhai.
The vehicle’s driver was taken into custody for having the illegal substance, which was hidden within 12 soap cases.
