Renowned Actor Nipon Goswami Hospitalised After Falling Ill

Guwahati: Veteran actor Nipon Goswami was hospitalised to Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati on Monday after becoming quite ill.

The renowned actor has reportedly been afflicted with heart-related conditions for some time. However, he was taken to the hospital right after as his condition abruptly deteriorated.

Goswami has been confined in the Nemcare Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he is being watched.

He will allegedly undergo a number of tests tomorrow that his doctors have suggested.

The 80 year old actor was born in Tezpur of Assam. A former student at the esteemed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where luminaries like Subhash Ghai, Navin Nischol, and Shatrughan Sinha have graduated.

He made his film debut in Assam in 1957 as a child actor in the Phani Sarma film Piyali Phukan. Sangram, his debut Assamese film in a leading role, was a commercial success.

His next movie Dr. Bezbaruah, released in 1969, brought him recognition as a star to act in many movies in coming years. He appeared in a few Hindi movies as well.

He has been actively involved in mobile theatres, notably, Abaahan, Kohinoor, Hengul, and Shakuntala while also appearing in few TV serials like Writu aahe writu jaai’.
