Meghalaya Considering To Move Secretariat to New Shillong
Guwahati: The Meghalaya government is considering to move the state secretariat and other administrative offices to New Shillong Township in an effort to relieve congestion in the capital, according to authorities.
The chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, S. Dhar, the minister of urban affairs and top state officials toured a number of locations in the new township, which is being built around 12 km from Shillong on Thursday.
“We have come here to visit Mawdiangdiang, Mawpat and Mawkasiang to see the possibility of shifting the entire secretariat and the government departments here,” Sangma told reporters.
“We are examining the possibility and contemplating which is going to be a better option for the state and its people,” he added. He said that a plot of land measuring around 220 acres in Mawdiangdiang had been chosen for the construction of the secretariat and other significant offices in addition to housing.
The chief minister stated land at Mawpdang, next to Mawdiangdiang, might be allocated for additional offices and administrative structures.
Additionally, Sangma opened a number of facilities at the college’s teacher education programme. He claimed that his government has prioritised education and that systematic reform is required to raise money for bettering the infrastructure and teacher training.
He said that various costs associated with schooling were paid for by cess received from the transportation and export of minerals.
