Morbi Bridge Collapse: Over 141 Dead As Rescue Ops Continue
Guwahati: More than 141 deaths have been reported till early morning in Morbi hanging bridge collapse incident case that occurred in Gujarat on Sunday Evening.
Rescue teams including Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and Fire Brigade conducted massive search operations throughout the night to trace the missing persons.
“More than 141 deaths have been reported till early morning. Around 177 people have been rescued. 19 people are under treatment. Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and Fire Brigade are conducting search operations,” said the Gujarat Information Department.
Meanwhile ,Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Minister Brijeshbhai Merja, Minister of State Shri Arvindbhai Raiyani and Minister of State Harshbhai Sanghvi personally arrived at the incident spot at midnight and saw the rescue effort and provided instructions.
According to information provided by the district administration, the system was instantly triggered following the suspension bridge accident and rescue efforts were initiated with the assistance of locals.
In addition to this, teams from other locations started travelling to the location. On the other hand, about 40 medical professionals from several hospitals began providing emergency care at Morbi Civil Hospital.
The rescue effort was launched when the Rajkot Municipal Corporation boat and rescue supplies including life jackets arrived at Morbi.
Throughout the night, 25 to 108 emergency ambulances from the municipalities of Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh Metropolitan Municipality and Morbi were on the road to transport the injured as soon as possible to the hospital.
The rescue effort also included a number of private ambulances. Army squad from Surendranagar told officials that it had joined with its three ambulances and equipment.
In addition, 110 men of five teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Gandhinagar and Vadodara arrived at the scene by air and land, accelerating the rescue effort.
A total of 149 men of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) including two platoons from Jamnagar, three platoons each from Gondal and Vadodara arrived at the scene, according to defence officials.
