Guwahati: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested a police officer on Tuesday in Darrang district of Assam in connection with the murder of a tribal girl.
The arrested police officer identified as Utpal Bora was the Officer in charge of the Dhula Police Station.
Utpal was arrested for carelessness during the murder inquiry.
Reports claim that CID oversaw a special investigation team that looked into the situation.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intervened to have the subject looked into.
It needs to be mentioned that three police officers had previously been suspended in relation to the incident.
