Guwahati: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership removed five members prior to the Himachal Pradesh elections for independently running against other candidates including the state vice president for the following six years.
“BJP’s President in Himachal Pradesh Suresh Kashyap has expelled primary membership of the party’s following workers with immediate effect for six years for independently contesting against authorized candidates,” said a statement by the BJP.
Five leaders were mentioned on the list: Tejwant Singh Negi, a former MLA from Kinnaur; Kishori Lal, an ex-MLA from Aani; Dhiman, a former MLA from Indora; Fatehpur, the deputy president of the Himachal BJP; and Thakur, a former MLA from Nalagarh.
The news follows previous rumours that numerous BJP candidates have rebelled against the party’s leadership.
According to reports, after 11 contenders withdrew their papers in Mandi, the BJP is running into opposition candidates in three of the ten seats in the home district of CM Jairam Thakur.
After being passed over during the saffron party’s ticket allocation, Gian Chand, ex-Minister Roop Singh’s son Abhishek, and Parveen Sharma submitted their nominations from Nachan, Sundernagar and Mandi, respectively.
Election day in the state is scheduled for November 12. The results will be announced on December 8.
