PM Narendra Modi Visits Site Of Morbi Bridge Collapse In Gujarat
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited to Morbi in Gujarat following the death of at least 135 persons due to the cable suspension bridge on Tuesday.
A search and rescue operation is in progress in the Machchhu River.
At least 135 people, including women and children, were killed and over 100 people are being treated for their injuries after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on Sunday, pluinging people into the Machchhu River.
In order to assess the situation in Morbi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level meeting on Monday at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.
The rescue and relief efforts that have been going on since the terrible incident in Morbi were explained to the prime minister. Every aspect of the incident was explored.
According to a PMO announcement, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of ensuring that individuals affected receive all available support.
The chief minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Bhai Patel, the state’s chief secretary Harsh Sanghavi and the director general of police (DGP) were among the top representatives present at the high-level meeting, along with representatives from the state’s home department and the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority.
The prime minister had earlier declared that there would be no lack in rescue and relief efforts.
A five-member committee has been established by the Gujarati government to investigate the bridge collapse tragedy. Nine people have been arrested in connection with the collapse of the Morbi Bridge, including employees of the company Oreva who reconstructed the bridge, ticket salesmen and security personnel.
