SC Dismisses Plea to Rename Bombay HC
Guwahati: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a plea asking for instructions to rename the Bombay High Court as the Maharashtra High Court.
Justices Aniruddha Bose and Vikram Nath’s panel declined to hear the case, stating that politicians should be the ones to resolve these matters.
VP Patil, who had served as a judge for 26 years filed the petition in order to direct the authorities to implement a provision of the Maharashtra Adaptation of Laws (State and Concurrent Subjects) Order, 1960 for the conservation and preservation of the unique culture, heritage, and traditions of the people of Maharashtra.
It stated that the relevant authorities in other states should similarly be instructed to rename their high courts to reflect the names of the states in which they are situated.
