GoA Signed MoU with Bright Star Investments for 2nd Medical College

Guwahati: The Assam government and Bright Star Investments Pvt. Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a second medical college in Guwahati on Friday at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

Pragjyotishpur Medical College will be the title of the city’s second medical institution.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The session of the new medical college in Guwahati will start from 2024.”

“Within the next five years, there will be 24 medical colleges in the state and following the construction work of all the medical colleges, MBBS seats will be 2,700,” he added.

The medical college would get investments totaling Rs. 150 crores from Bright Start Investments Pvt. Limited.

Notably, CM Sarma laid the cornerstone for the city’s new medical college in February.

He said the medical college will have two campuses. One is located at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) in Pan Bazar and has 800 beds, 100 ICUs, cutting-edge diagnostic tools, a dialysis unit, and 11 OTs. The other is located in Kalapahar and has 480 beds, 46 ICUs, seven cutting-edge OTs, and will house 450 students and 100 interns.
