Manipur: Assam Rifles Colonel Death 2021 Involved MNPF Cadre Held
Guwahati: Member of the Manipur Naga Peoples’ Front (MNPF), a terrorist group responsible for the murder of an Assam Rifles colonel, his family and four soldiers was arrested in Imphal, Manipur on Saturday.
A team of security forces, including members of the Manipur Police, the NIA and four Assam Rifles, arrested him at the Yaingangpokpi crossroads near an oil pump.
The cadre has been identified as Machukring Zamshim Shimray alias Ningkhan hailing from New-Cannan Village in Ukhrul district.
Notably, in Churachandpur district of Manipur, on November 20, 2021, the 46 Assam Rifles’ commanding officer, Vivplap Tripathi and his family as well as four jawans were all slain after their convoy was attacked by insurgents.
When they were ambushed by the insurgents, Colonel Tripathi, his wife and their 6-year-old kid were returning from a firm company station in Behiang.
Up to six jawans, including a havildar, the CO’s driver and three members of the Quick Relation team were also injured in the ambush.
