Speeding Dumper Runs Over 5-Year-Old
Guwahati: A dumper ran over a five-year-old child on Monday in Tezpur of Assam as a result of aggressive driving.
The incident reportedly occurred right in front of Borghat Police Outpost in Tezpur under the Sonitpur district of Assam.
Witnesses reported that the child was struck by the dumper as it was approaching at a high rate of speed and instantly killed. The identity of the deceased has been withheld at the moment.
The accident was brought on by a dump truck travelling too fast with registration numbers AS 12 AC 4918. The local police have taken charge of it.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in the region as enraged locals came out on the streets following the death of the child. They further demanded that freight carrying or otherwise, heavy vehicles like trucks and dumpers to not be allowed to ply during the daytime, that is, between 7 am to 4 pm.
Additionally, the dumper has been accused of importing sand illegally and of being a member of a sand-smuggling syndicate.
It should be noted that on Saturday, two separate road accidents resulted in the deaths of a toddler and a student in their higher secondary.
A nine-year-old child was killed after he was struck by a motorcycle travelling at high speed in Hailakandi. The child was reportedly on his way home after performing namaz at a mosque when the incident occurred. The bike’s operator fled the area after the collision.
In another incident, a higher secondary student died in an accident in Assam’s Magherita. He was riding a bike and suddenly lost control over the vehicle and skidded killing him on the spot.
Another individual was injured in the accident as well and they were both taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital.
