19 Worthy Law Students Get Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi’s Scholarship Cheques

Guwahati: Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi presented scholarships to as many as 27 students at a ceremony held at the National Law University and Judicial Academy (NLUJA) in Guwahati on Sunday.

The former CJI established the fund to offer financial support to deserving candidates who want to enrol in law school.

The scholarships were given to students in Assam or any other state in India who were enrolled in a five-year law degree programme. The fund was established by Ranjan Gogoi, a lawmaker who is also a member of the Rajya Sabha, using money from his pay.

Of the 27 candidates of the scholarship, 19 are from law schools located throughout Assam, six are attending National Law Universities and colleges in other states to study law, and the two remaining recipients are from National Law University and the Judicial Academy in Assam.

Moreover, the CAN Foundation, an organisation made up of former students from National Law Universities all throughout India, will choose two additional students who are enrolled in other National Law Universities around the nation to win the award.

The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Rashmin Manoharbhai Chhaya attended the occasion and presented scholarship checks to the winners from the several legal schools in Assam, including NLUJA. The checks for students who are enrolled in institutions in other Indian states will be forwarded to those institutions in the interim.
