Sniffer Dogs Deployed To Crack Down Contraband at Guwahati Railway Station
Guwahati: A total of 19 sniffer dogs and two tracker dogs have been deployed at the Guwahati train station in an effort to strengthen security.
The security officers are assisted by the dogs in seizing illegally transported contraband.
Northeast Frontier Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De stated that “19 sniffer and two tracker dogs doing regular patrolling with Railway Protection Force deployed at the Guwahati railway station and helping them to catch hold of contraband that smugglers try to transport illegally.”
There have been multiple instances of illegal goods being brought into the state in recent months.
The step has been taken in view of the same.
City police arrested two drug smugglers on Saturday and seized substantial amounts of illegal goods from a vehicle, totaling Rs 5 crore.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajib Miyan and Rekib Ahmed, hailing from Mankachar.
Around 20,000 Yaba tablets were recovered from their possession.
In a separate incident that day, municipal police in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district confiscated illegal substances from a car valued at Rs 15 crore.
The drug bust took place in the Sonapur area of the district.
One drug dealer was also arrested by the police in connection with it.
