Nitin Gadkari Calls On Assam Guv, Discusses Infra Projects

Guwahati: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday met at Guwahati’s Raj Bhavan to review the state’s ongoing infrastructure projects.

The minister briefed the governor on his ministry’s plans to use the Brahmaputra for transportation, the promotion of commercial and trade operations, and to take advantage of the river’s enormous power-generating potential.

Gadkari added that his ministry is working to establish modern driving training facilities, driver simulation training, etc. in the region.

The Minister also provided information on the policies of scrapping as well as the production of ethanol and methanol from bamboo and other biomass.

He added that establishing an international design and production centre for bamboo is necessary.

It is therefore planned to encourage the industries based on bamboo and cane to make use of the plentiful resources in North East India, particularly Assam.

He emphasised the importance of agroprocessing, particularly pine apple processing, which has significant export potential.

The Assam Governor briefed the Minister on his travels to border regions and the requirement for further border infrastructure development.

The Union Minister gave his word that measures will be taken to improve the infrastructure in border regions.

In the meeting, Gadkari put a greater focus on North East India especially Assam for logistics and greater connectivity
