Centre: TV channels to air 30 mins of ‘national interest’ content daily
Guwahati: New regulations from the Center require TV channel providers to air 30-minute segments of content of national and societal relevance.
The guidelines for up linking and down linking have been made available to the public because the Indian government intends to make India a hub for up linking.
A reduction in TV station compliance was also announced. The guidelines were first released in 2005, and its most recent revision was made in 2011.
I&B Secretary Apurva Chandra said, “TV channels will have to broadcast 30 minutes of public interest content every day, including themes of national interest such as education, literacy, agriculture and rural development, health and family welfare, science and technology, women welfare, the welfare of weaker sections of the society, environmental protection, cultural heritage and national integration.”
“The government will not provide the content for the channels. TV channels are free to create and broadcast their content,” it added.
