All unnatural death cases in last one year To Reopen: CM Sarma
Guwahati: All cases of unnatural deaths in Assam that have been reported in the past year will be reinvestigated.
This was informed by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
Speaking to the media in Guwahati, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that all district SPs in the state have been instructed to reopen all unnatural death cases for investigation that have been reported during the past year.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The SPs have been directed to reopen cases that were labelled as suicide and closed.”
The Assam chief minister made this announcement in response to the high-profile arrests made by the Assam police’s criminal investigation department (CID) in the case of the death of a minor girl at Dhula in the Darrang district.
Notable among those arrested by the Assam police CID in the Dhula minor death case are Rajmohan Roy, a suspended SP for the Darrang district, Rupam Phukan, a second SP for Darrang, and Ashirbad Hazarika, an executive magistrate for Dalgaon.
Executive magistrate of Dalgaon in Assam – Ashirbad Hazarika – an Assam Land and Revenue Service (ALRS) officer of the 2019 batch, allegedly had declared that the minor girl died by suicide, without visiting the incident site.
APS officer Rajmohan Roy – suspended SP of Darrang district in Assam has been charged with hiding the results of the investigation into the death of the minor girl.
The Darrang district’s suspended extra SP, Rupam Phukan, is charged with “unfairly managing” the death case of the young girl.
Arun Chandra Deka, Ajanta Bordoloi, and Anupam Sharma, three doctors from the Mangaldoi government hospital in Assam were also arrested in connection with the case.
According to reports, the doctors faked the post-mortem report in relation to the death of the minor girl.
Sub-inspector Utpal Bora, the previous officer-in-charge of the Dhula police station in Assam, was previously detained by CID after it gathered sufficient proof that he had allegedly received an unlawful payment of Rs 5 lakh from the accused’s family.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave the police chief the order to assemble a Special Probe Team (SIT) of three people to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
As a result, on August 12 the case was transferred to CID, where a daily investigation was carried out directly under the direction of senior officials.
The young minor was found dead inside the home where she was a domestic helper for one Krishna Kamal Baruah in the Dhula area.
