Guwahati: A huge quantity of illicit heroin has been seized by Assam Police at Karimganj district.
Acting on a tip-off, Assam Police launched an operation and intercepted Bolero vehicle along the Assam-Mizoram border.
On checking the vehicle, as many as 117 soap boxes filled with heroin were seized from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, vehicle’s driver has been arrested in connection to the seizure.
The arrestee identified as Samil Uddin.
It is learned that the drugs were being smuggled to Bangladesh from Mizoram before being intercepted by the police at Karimganj.
The seized drug is believed to be worth around Rs 12 crores in the international markets.
Elsewhere in the Suraibari area of Karimganj, police busted another major drug smuggling operation on the same day.
Reports stated that around four quintals of ganja was seized by police from a truck.
The seized ganja held a value of around Rs 8 lakh.
Moreover, the truck driver and another occupant were taken into custody in connection to it.
