Congress Unveils Manifesto for Gujarat Assembly Elections
Guwahati: The Congress party on Saturday announced its election manifesto for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections.
There are 11 pledges in the platform, including establishing the Old Pension Scheme in the state and waiving farmer loans up to Rs 3 lakh.
Releasing the manifesto, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that this manifesto would be the government’s document in the very first cabinet if the party gets elected in the state assembly election.
“This manifesto will become the government’s document in the first cabinet if our government is formed,” Gehlot said.
He added that rather than the committee that was previously formed for the task, the party had created this manifesto based on the preferences of the electorate.
“Over six lakh individuals responded in response to Rahul Gandhi’s suggestion that we invite the public for their input on the manifesto,” Gehlot said.
There will be two separate rounds of voting on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8, which coincides with Himachal Pradesh’s result date.
The state has been ruled by the BJP for the past 27 years, making it a BJP stronghold.
Taking aim at the state’s ruling party for the recent Morbi bridge catastrophe, Rajasthan CM Gehlot claimed that the state’s governance was “nothing.”
“Recognize the seriousness of the Morbi incident. What issue does the government have with appointing a High Court judge who is either a sitting or resigned member of the Commission? People will be cautious in the future if they are penalised. That is government, and we have none of it ” he said.
At least 135 people were killed and over 100 injured after a cable suspension bridge in Morbi town collapsed on October 30, plunging people into the Machchhu river.
