Guwahati: Seven poachers engaged in illegal fishing were detained by the Udharbond Forest Department officials on November 13.
The seven arrested poachers are Zakir Hossain Laskar, Murad Hossain Laskar, Shahjahan Laskar, Shahjahan Laskar, Maruk Laskar, Abul Hussain Laskar, Iqbal Hussain Laskar.
The accused were apprehended while engaging in illicit fishing in the Borail Wildlife Sanctuary, a component of the Udharbond Forest Department in the Cachar district.
According to reports, the smugglers allegedly employed electro-fishing equipment and poison while participating in unlawful activities.
Several kilograms of fish of various species along with electrical equipment and chemicals were recovered from their possession
The detainees were then turned over to Udharbond Police by the representatives of the Udharbond Forest Department.
