Nine Prisoners Escape from Mon Dist Jail

Guwahati: At least nine under trial prisoners/convicted persons escaped from Mon district jail in Nagaland in the early hours of Saturday.

The detainees managed to escape in the early hours of Saturday after finding their cell keys, a police officer said on Sunday, adding that the prisoners included murder defendants and those who were awaiting trial.

A case has been filed in this regard at Mon Police Station.

Massive search operations have been launched to find the prisoners.

The police added that many agencies have been informed and a look-out notice has been issued.

Prisoner village councils have also been instructed to get in touch with the police if they have any information about individuals who fled from custody.
