Alleged scam involving Rs 45 lakh found in Hailakandi’s Lala Block under the MNREGA scheme

Guwahati: A massive swindle involving Rs 45 lakh has been exposed under the pretence of pond digging and jungle clearing in Hailakandi’s Lala development block.

Engineers Pritam Dar and Prasanjit Deb, as well as Lala Development Block officials Manoj Dutta, have all been accused of participating in this scheme.

This alleged act of corruption took place at the Lala Block Development Office, where it is claimed that funds given by the government were embezzled.

Under the MNREGA scheme, the state government allotted Rs 45 lakh for pond digging, jungle clearing, and the construction of drinking water tanks in Lala Development Block in the fiscal years 2021–2022.

Surprisingly, not a single cent of the budgeted sum was spent for any of the planned development projects.

Lala Block Development officer Manoj Dutta and engineers Pritam Dhar and Presanjit Das have been accused of misappropriating all the money and these allegations have been raised by Jahir Uddin Laskar, president of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and Raijor Dal.

They threaten to gherao the Lala development block, which houses about 10,000 people, unless a thorough investigation into this widespread wrongdoing is conducted within the next 15 days and these policemen are punished.
