BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi Becomes President of ACA
Guwahati: Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi was elected as the new president of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA).
The ACA election for the period 2023–25 was supposed to take place on November 27, however it was postponed.
The deadlines for submitting nominations and withdrawing them were November 21 and November 22, respectively.
The MLA is contesting the election on behalf of the Guwahati Sports Association rather than his own district. Gogoi submitted his nomination for president but no other candidates submitted their papers in opposition to him.
Similarly, former Ranji cricketer Rajesh Bora and current treasurer Tridip Konwar were supposed to run for secretary, however Rajesh Bora withdrew his nomination at the last minute citing personal concerns.
Unopposed, Tridip Konwar was elected as ACA secretary.
Meanwhile, ACA has made the decision to hold elections for additional posts through physical and telephone discussions with 31 district representatives.
As a result, the appointments of Rajinder Singh as joint secretary, Chiranjeev Langthasa as treasurer and Rajdeep Oja as vice president were finalised.
Rajdeep Oja is the son of Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Queen Oja.
The general secretary of the Mangaldai District Sports Association Anupam Deka was also chosen as a member of the Apex Council. The Assam Cricket Association’s new committee is chosen rather than elected to accomplish this.
