Taught “them” a lesson in 2002 & brought peace in Gujarat, Says Amit Shah

Guwahati: BJP leaders appear to be bringing up 2002 more and more as the Gujarat Elections process progresses, claiming that “they were taught a lesson.”

During a campaign event in Mahudha in central Gujarat and Vagra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given “anti-social elements” a lesson back in 2002 when he was the state’s chief executive.

Shah added that since “they” had attempted to cause a problem, they had been given a lesson.

He added that until 2022, “they” dared not repeat anything as a result of the lesson. However, Shah did not specify who the “they” were.

Shah asserted that “they deserted the path” following the 2002 lesson.

He added that “they” abstained from violence from 2002 till 2022, claiming the BJP had brought about enduring calm in Gujarat.

Shah further added that the BJP pursued harsh measures against those who engaged in intergroup violence.

Shah attributed all anti-social groups in Gujarat on the Congress, without identifying who or what “they” were.

He asserted that prior to 1995, when the Congress was in power in Gujarat, racial unrest was commonplace.

He added that the riots had given Congress a vote bank.

Shah continued to criticise the Congress, saying that when PM Modi became the CM, he “taught them a lesson” and “established peace forever.”
