Elon Musk: Extending Twitter’s Character Limit From 280 to 1000 On Cards

Guwahati: Rants on Twitter are expected to increase.

The character limit on the microblogging website might soon increase from its current cap of merely 280 characters to 1000 characters.

The company’s CEO Elon Musk hinted to the update in response to a user’s suggestion.

According to a Mashable story, Twitter was referred to as a “microblogging service” because tweets on the service are limited to 140 characters. Finally, in 2017, the character limit was raised to 280. The announcement was made on the Twitter’s official blog.

“Many people Tweeted the full 280 limit because it was new and novel, but soon after behavior normalized…….We saw when people needed to use more than 140 characters, they Tweeted more easily and more often,” the official Twitter blog read.

One of the main distinctions between Twitter and other social media platforms has been the character restriction.

According to a Mashable report, Musk has expressed interest in expanding the character limit several times since he took control over the site.

A Twitter user suggested to Musk on November 27 that the platform’s word limit be raised from 280 to 420.

“Good idea” Musk wrote in response.

Prior to that, another user had suggested “get rid of character limits.”

“Absolutely”, the multi-billionaire responded.

Musk recently revealed a multi-colored verification system as yet another significant upgrade to the platform.

The former “Twitter Blue” service, which had to be discontinued days after its launch due to an increase of accounts mimicking well-known businesses and personalities while carrying the “verified” check will be replaced by the three-colored scheme.
