DU Ragging Case: 3 Hostel Wardens Suspended
Guwahati: The Dibrugarh University’s (DU) vice-chancellor (VC), Prof. Jiten Hazarika has suspended the three hostel wardens of Padma Nath Gohain Baruah Chatra Nivas as part of the continuing investigation into the ragging incident (PNGB hostel).
The wardens have been identified as Palash Dutta, Dibojoti Dutta and Abu Mustak Hussian.
Speaking to the media, the Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor said, “I have suspended all the 3 wardens of the hostel and have constituted a high-level inquiry committee to probe the matter today.”
The VC also advised all of the students who had fled from the hostel because they were afraid of ragging to return back and continue with their studies.
Regarding the university’s GS’s role in the ragging incident, the vice chancellor (VC) stated, “The administrative committee will look into the case and if even the GS is found guilty will have to leave the university also.”
Meanwhile, a political science student Subhrojyoti Baruah of third semester has been arrested by the police.
On the other hand, the incident’s victim, Anand Sharma has accused the DUPGSU’s newly elected General Secretary of being complicit in the whole thing.
Sharma said that DUPGSU general secretary Ankur Bora had reportedly stolen his phone in his statement to police which was documented under Section 143 CrPc.
Earlier on November 29, Dibrugarh University students demonstrated against the incident and requested that those responsible be properly punished as well as improved care for Anand Sharma.
According to the students, the university administration is attempting to hide the incident.
“Even after 48 hours, the district administration and university authorities have not been able to arrest the main accused Rahul Chetri,” said one of the protesting students.
Additionally, the students urged the administration to take swift action against the offender to avoid a major uprising by the university’s student body.
