Gujarat Election Phase 1: Voting underway for 89 seats, 34.48% voters turnout recorded till 1 PM

Guwahati: The first round of voting for the Gujarat Assembly began at 8 am on December 1st, amidst high security.

Notably, the Election Commission’s most recent report indicates that up until 1 pm, 34.48 percent of eligible voters cast ballots.

Today, more than 2 crore voters in 89 constituencies spread across 19 districts in Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat will decide the fate of political parties.

A total of 2,39,76,670 voters will cast ballots by 5 p.m. today to decide the fate of 788 candidates in the first phase.

Out of the total electors, there are 1,24,33,362 male electors, 1,15,42,811 female electors and 497 third-gender electors. Voting rights for people with impairments total around 4 lakh.

The voting age is 80 years and older for almost 9.8 lakh seniors and 10 000 voters.

The Election Commission posted a picture of 104-year-old Ramji Bhai who participated in the celebration of democracy by casting a ballot in person rather than using a postal ballot as part of its ongoing election coverage.

On the other hand, ECI has put up a voting place at Banej (93-Una AC) deep in the Gir woods for just one voter, Mahant Haridasji Udasin.

The EC reports that there are 4,945 voters over the age of 99 and 5,745,460 voters between the ages of 18 and 19. There are 125 men and 38 women out of the 163 NRI voters.

14,382 polling locations are available, 3,311 of which are in urban regions and 11,071 in rural ones.

During the first phase of voting, 13,065 polling places in 19 districts will be streamed live online. In Gandhinagar, the Chief Electoral Officer has established a state-level monitoring room. The EC says there would be ongoing observation starting at 6.30 a.m. till all votes have been cast.
