CNG buses to ply from next year in Guwahati city
Guwahati: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) will be used by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) starting in the city of Guwahati the following year.
According to reports, the ASTC would carry out the CNG bus project as part of the Guwahati Smart City Project.
A tender for the operation of 100 CNG buses in Guwahati city was published earlier after the state government made the policy decision to do so.
Tata Motors recently delivered 68 CNG buses to the state after the bidding buses, and the remaining 32 vehicles would be delivered soon.
These buses will operate in phases, and two filling stations have been set up for them at the ISBT in Betkuchi and Ulubari, respectively to supply CNG to the new buses.
These buses have been put into service in an effort to cut pollution and save money on fuel, which is now significantly more expensive.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had previously stated that 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and 100 electric buses would replace Guwahati’s diesel-powered city buses.
“Everyone is involved in the effort to reduce carbon emissions. This is Assam’s contribution to the project “Sarma announced.
He also informed that, the government plans to replace all of the city’s city buses with CNG and electric vehicles within a year of taking office.
Sarma stated that he agrees with the Center’s decision to designate the Northeast as a hub for the production of palm oil as part of the National Mission on Edible Oils when discussing the environment and ecology.
He continued, “The Prime Minister is really eager to see this project go forward, and I am confident it will not harm the environment.”
