4 Assam workers Held for murder of 33-year-old man in Tamil Nadu
Guwahati: The Tamil Nadu Police arrested four labourers from Assam for their alleged involvement in a 33-year-old murder case in the Manikandam area of Trichy.
The 33-year-old man identified as K Chakravarthy of Vandayar street in Thuvakudi malai south in Thiruverumbur was killed on December 3 with his body tied to a tree at a sawmill in the Manikandam area of Trichy.
Police initiated an inquiry after receiving the information and a preliminary investigation implicated Assam sawmill workers A Faizal Hook (36); A Rashidul Rahman (22); M Soshidhul Sheik (22); and Y Musiful Hook (28).
P Direndar( 42) of Sanjeevi Nagar allegedly ran the Ashapura sawmill, and Chakravarthy is accused of going to the mill that evening on December 2 and stealing Direndar’s cellphone.
According to the police, the workers caught him in the act and warned him before chasing him away. Chakravarthy returned to the mill after a short absence. The workers assumed that he was planning to steal, so they caught him and tied him to a tree.
They also tied him to a tree all night and beat him with their hands.
They found Chakravarthy had died when the workers arrived back on December 3 in the morning. However, the authorities were originally unable to determine his identify.
Later, the police learned his identify and told his 53-year-old father, S Kannan.
As per Kannan, Chakravarthy was an engineering graduate who had previously worked in Chennai. He had resigned from his position and left for Trichy, though, because of his drunkenness.
He left his home after arguing with his wife about her refusing to give him money to buy alcohol on December 2.
Chakravarthy leaves behind a wife and a six-month-old son.
