Based on specific input, sleuths of Churachandpur police led by Officer-in-charge (OC) N Thanzamuan and Sub Inspector (SI) B Zairemthang conducted a search operation in the Songgel area.
A black bag containing 33 soap cases was found during the search operation, and when it was inspected, brown sugar weighing 416 grams was found.
According to preliminary inquiry, the arrested person Semkhogin Misao purchased the alleged brown sugar from a single person in Myanmar for Rs 7000 per soap case.
A case has been filed in this regard under the relevant parts of the ND and PS Act and additional investigation is ongoing.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh recently stated that his administration was concentrating on stopping drug smuggling and illegal immigration into the state in addition to launching counter-insurgency operations.
Singh also noted that the relationship between the force and the public has strengthened over time while speaking during the 131st Manipur Police Raising Day.
According to the CM, the Centre’s confidence in the state police to stop illegal immigration and cross-border smuggling is demonstrated by the sanctioning of the establishment of 34 police stations along the border areas by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“We cannot solely concentrate on insurgency and counter-insurgency measures… as the state is facing problems of immigration and drug smuggling,” Singh said.
Moreover, he stated that “for the first time in Manipur and the northeast,” GPS-enabled dedicated highway police cars had been introduced.
