Guwahati: In a horrific incident, policeman allegedly shot dead his own colleague using his service firearm at Sonari of Assam on Tuesday.
The heinous incident took place at Sonari Sadan Police Station.
According to reports, the accused shot his colleague three times at the neck.
The deceased identified as Gokul Basumatary.
Meanwhile, the accused policeman has been identified as Deepak Kakati.
Reportedly, Deepak has surrendered after the terrible incident.
“Police constable Dipak Kakati shot his colleague Gakul Basumatary by using his service rifle,” Superintendent of Police (SP) of Charaideo, Yuvraj was quoted by ANI.
“Other police personnel of the police station immediately admitted Gakul Basumatary at a hospital but he succumbed to his injuries,” he added.
The reason behind the sudden act of the policeman is yet to be ascertained.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
