Assam to Lay Foundation of Four Medical Colleges Soon

Guwahati: The first stone for four additional medical institutions in Assam will be laid this month. The state government hopes to have built 24 of these colleges by the end of the second BJP-led administration’s second term in 2026–2027.

Five medical colleges will open its doors in the state, the most in a single year in Assam’s history, if construction is completed in the three years anticipated. The first stone of a medical college hospital was recently placed in the freshly established Tamulpur district of the Bodoland Territorial Region in lower Assam.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday laid the foundation for a 200-bed hospital and medical college to be constructed in Bongaigaon at an estimated cost of Rs 610 crore in addition to announcing a number of development projects for the lower Assam district. Sarma will lay the groundwork for a new medical college hospital in the Morigaon area of central Assam on Thursday.
