Assam: MP Gaurav Gogoi demands 90:10 funding in railways projects for NE
Guwahati: Assam and other northeastern states are in need of Rail Over Bridge/Road under Bridge (ROB/RUB) construction and MP Gaurav Gogoi urged 90:10 financing in a speech to the Lok Sabha.
As MP Gaurav Gogoi continued to emphasise the necessity of a Rail Over Bridge/Road Under Bridge in his district’s Chungajan and Tengani, he said, “If we go by tradition, the Central government contribution is at least 80-90 percent in all the northeastern railway projects.”
On the other hand, the state government often has a 10–20% share.
Moreover, MP Gaurav Gogoi asserted that the railway department allegedly told the MP that the state government should be responsible for covering the full cost of the level crossing when the MP approached it about the need for one.
The speaker, Om Birla was encouraged by Gaurav Gogoi to ask the railway department to maintain the financial mechanism in place from earlier in time.
The Central government on September 28 approved a new proposal for a rail-cum-road bridge across the Brahmaputra river in close proximity to the current Saraighat bridge in Guwahati.
The Rail-Cross-Road Bridge over the Brahmaputra River will cost Rs. 996.75 crore.
”Furthering PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of #GatiShakti. The project for Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Brahmaputra river near the existing Saraighat bridge at Guwahati has been approved at the cost of Rs. 996.75 Cr..,” Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tweeted.
Gadkari also informed that the cost of the project will be shared by NHAI and the Ministry of Railways, adding, ”The cost of approaches/viaducts is Rs 322 crore and will be entirely built by NHAI”.
He added that the bridge would traverse the Brahmaputra River to link Assam’s north and south banks, or Guwahati.
