Himachal Bypoll Counting: Neck To Neck Battle Between BJP & Congress

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh with 30 seats while Congress is in second place with 28 of the 68 seats in the Himalayan state, according to the most recent trends in vote counting.

The Chief Minister of the state is currently leading the Seraj seat with 10326 votes while the Congress candidate for this seat, Chet Ram has gained 3694 votes so far.

Sunder Singh Thakur is in the lead with 8905 votes in the Kullu constituency, while Narotam Singh of the BJP is trailing with a total of 5949 votes. According to the most recent data from the ECI, the Congress candidate Sudhir Sharma is ahead with 6338 votes in the Dharamshala constituency while the BJP’s Rakesh Kumar is trailing with 3584 votes.

In the just-completed assembly elections in Shimla, the state capital, Harish Janartha of the Congress is now in the lead with 1724 votes, while Sanjay Sood of the BJP is in last place with 1146.

In the Himachal Pradesh, the Independent candidate has been in the lead from three seats.

In a close race in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP holds the advantage over the Congress, according to exit poll predictions made on Monday.

While the majority of exit polls indicated that the BJP will probably retain Himachal Pradesh, one indicated the Congress would likely take the lead in the race to form the state’s government.

At eight in the morning on Thursday, the counting of votes for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections began.

There are 68 counting halls spread out over 59 different places throughout Himachal.

On November 12, 68 assembly seats in the state were up for election, and a turnout of roughly 75.6% was noted.

In the hill state, BJP was vying for reelection for a second straight term, and Congress was supporting them by supporting the “10 assurances” that the party set in its manifesto. The election fight has become more intense with the Aam Aadmi Party’s emergence as the third major political party in the state.

Along with these three, other contenders include the Rashtriya Devbhumi Party (RDP), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and Communist Party of India (CPI).

Both the BJP and the Congress have declared victory in the state, which has a history of switching governments every few years. If the BJP prevails, it will defeat the anti-incumbency and reverse the state’s trend toward alternate governments.

Maneesh Garg had stated on Wednesday that 52,859 postal ballots—or roughly 87 percent—of those sent to workers on election duty had been returned by the state’s returning officers by December 6, 2022.

Notably, the BJP won 44 seats in the 2017 Assembly elections, while the Congress won 21. This helped the BJP form the government.
