GU Unit of AASU Convenes Meeting, Change In Leadership

Guwahati: The Gauhati University unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) called a significant meeting with a potential leadership change on the agenda on Thursday.

According to reports, the GU AASU unit’s present president may step down which prompted the urgent meeting.

A change in leadership is now necessary and the current president of the GU AASU section, Dipanka Kumar Nath is apparently planning to resign.

Reportedly, Utpal Sharma will take over as head of the university unit in the near future.

The All Assam Student Union’s (AASU) freshly elected state executive committee took the oath of office and assumed leadership on Monday. It took place at Gauhati University.

Taking responsibility for the student body in a meeting on November 30, 2020, 60 state executives took an oath today. After Lurinjyoti Gogoi left the student government, Dipanka Kumar Nath kept his position as president of the AASU and Sankar Jyoti Baruah was chosen as the new general secretary.

“After assuming charges, the new central executive committee of the students’ body will hold its central executive meeting soon. Besides making Samujjal Bhattacharya’s decision known, the meeting will discuss issues concerning the State that were raised during the Duliajan general conference,” newly-elected general secretary of AASU Sankar Jyoti Baruah had said.

Additionally, participants included Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students Union members.

The chief adviser of the AASU Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya had postponed his retirement and decided to be involved with the student body.

“Following the request of the delegates at Duliajan conference, distinguished personalities of the State as well as various regional organizations, I have expressed my consent to work as the chief advisor of AASU,” Chief adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said while speaking to the media.
