PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate Mopa International Airport in Goa on December 11

Guwahati: The Mopa International Airport in Goa will be inaugurated on Sunday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his initiative to build top-notch infrastructure and transportation facilities throughout the nation.

The foundation stone of the airport was laid by the prime minister in November 2016.

The airport, which was built for about Rs 2,870 crores, was designed with sustainable infrastructure in mind and includes features like a solar power plant, green buildings and LED lights on the runway, rainwater harvesting and a cutting-edge sewage treatment plant with recycling capabilities, among others.

It has incorporated some of the top technology, including 5G compatible IT infrastructure, StabilRoad, Robomatic Hollow precast walls, and 3-D Monolithic Precast buildings.

The airport has a runway large enough to accommodate the largest aircraft in the world, 14 parking spaces and a facility for aircraft parking at night, self-baggage drop facilities and state-of-the-art and independent air navigation infrastructure, among other characteristics.

Around 4.4 million passengers per year (MPPA) will be served initially by phase I of the airport, with a saturation capacity of 33 MPPA expandable.

The airport will support Goa’s socioeconomic growth and the needs of the travel and tourism sector. It has the potential to act as a significant logistics centre, directly connecting numerous local and foreign locations. It is also planned for the airport to have multi-modal connectivity.
