NESO to Stage Protest Against CAA Across NE

Guwahati: The North East Students’ Organization (NESO) will hold protests throughout the northeast in lieu of Sunday’s “Black Day.”

In a previous statement, the NESO said that it will commemorate December 11 as “Black Day” in opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill, which offers Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was adopted by the Rajya Sabha on December 11, 2019.

The organisation will raise black flags and banners at strategic locations throughout the whole northeastern region today. Making the authorities aware that the group is vehemently opposed to CAA is the main goal of this action.

NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa asked the people of the area to band together against the “draconian legislation” and claimed that this higher authority’s conduct constituted a strict law.

He believes that the residents of the northeast state are being treated completely unfairly. The Indian government completely disregarded the requests of the state’s indigenous population, who opposed the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The Act has not yet been implemented due to a lack of regulations. The government has cited the pandemic epidemic as the reason they have not been charged yet.
