Guwahati: In a gruesome incident of political vengeance, a group of local BJP leaders allegedly beat up a Muslim man and his mother at a party headquarters in Melaghar of West Tripura district.
The man has been identified as Masum Mia and his mother were severely beaten on Friday night inside the Baniachra Gram Panchayat BJP office under Melaghar police station in West Tripura.
Locals said that Masum Mia, a resident of Telkajala village, got into a fight with a friend while riding his bike to drop him off at home at Baniachra.
A group of BJP supporters intercepted him on his way home and dragged him to the party office, where they allegedly brutally thrashed him.
After hearing the news, Masum’s mother hurried to the BJP office to rescue her son, but she claims that saffron party activists also mistreated her as well.
Upon receiving information, officials from Melaghar police station arrived at the scene and rescued them.
Later, police transported them to Melaghar hospital for better treatment.
