SP’s Dimple Yadav Takes Oath as Lok Sabha MP

Guwahati: Dimple Yadav, a newly – elected Samajwadi Party lawmaker, took her oath as a Lok Sabha MP on Monday.

Yadav won the Mainpuri parliamentary bypoll in Uttar Pradesh on December 8.

Dimple Yadav is serving her second mandate as a lower house representative. She served as a Kannauj MP in the Lok Sabha from May 2012 to May 2019.

The Mainpuri parliamentary seat fell vacant in October following the demise of Samajwadi Party patriarch and Dimple Yadav’s father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The bypoll was held on December 5, and over 56 per cent voting was recorded.

Yadav defeated BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya by a landslide margin of more than 2.5 lakh votes. The Samajwadi Party is regarded as having strongholds in Mainpuri.

Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away at the age of 82 on October 10 at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

Dimple Yadav, a combined candidate of the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, was defeated by Subrata Pathak of the BJP by a margin of more than 10,000 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Kannauj.
