PM Modi to visit Tripura & Meghalaya on Dec 18 For poll campaign

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit to the states of Meghalaya and Tripura on December 18, 2022, which is slated to have elections.

Meanwhile, the saffron party has instructed its party members to firmly project the infrastructure development carried out by the PM Modi-led central government in the northeast region in order to offset potential challenges from the opposition parties.

Notably, it was resolved to emphasise the “priority” the Modi government has assigned to the Northeast since 2014 during a strategic conference convened ahead of the Tripura assembly election and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s projected visit to the Northeastern state on December 18.

It should be noted that at the Tripura election meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah voiced displeasure about “factionalism” within the Tripura state BJP and gave leaders instructions to stop doing so going forward.

The development comes after the senior Tripura BJP leaders, led by the chief minister Manik Saha, attended a high-level meeting in Delhi on December 11 that was called by Shah in order to settle a factional conflict within the state’s BJP and to prepare election strategy.

Besides BJP national president JP Nadda, party’s Tripura president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik, Rajya Sabha MP and former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb also attended the meeting.

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to address party members in Meghalaya on December 13 in order to develop a plan for the state’s upcoming early-2019 assembly elections.

The TMC became the main opposition party in this hill state in November of last year after 11 other Opposition Congress MLAs, led by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, switched their allegiance to it.
