Grand Alliance at National Level Is Key To Defeat BJP In LS Polls in 2024: AIUDF
Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Tuesday recommended creating a broad national alliance of all “anti-BJP political parties” in order to compete against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,
According to AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam, a grand coalition of all secular parties must be formed on a national level if people wish to replace the BJP-led government at the centre with a secular one.
“So, if a grand alliance is formed against BJP at the national level, there can be Congress or AIUDF. But, if both the parties joined the grand alliance, it would be not only Assam based, but the one at a national level,” Aminul Islam said.
In light of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee’s repeated denials of establishing an alliance with the Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) before to the 2018 Lok Sabha elections it is important to note that the AIUDF MLA’s words are timely.
Aminul Islam added that following the pact, even the Assam Congress would concur with the Centre.
“Assam Congress will not be the deciding element if the grand alliance is formed, rather it will be the All India Congress Committee (AICC) who would take a decision which will be followed by Assam Congress as well,” Aminul Islam said expressing hopes for the formation of the grand alliance at the national level.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) working president Jakir Hussain Sikdar had earlier on December 3 referred to the AIUDF as a “traitor” and stated that there was no prospect of creating an alliance with them once more.
“In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, we fought alongside the AIUDF in an alliance, but we lost. In the Lok Sabha election of 2024 or in any future elections, we shall not form another alliance with the AIUDF. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee made the choice. The upper command of our party has already been informed of our choice. Never be friends with someone who attacks from behind,” Sikdar said.
AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh had also announced earlier that Congress would not make an alliance with AIUDF.
