Ind Vs BAN 2nd Test: R Ashwin, Unadkat Shine On Day 1

Guwahati: Mominul Haque’s unbeaten performance of 65 runs helped the hosts reach 184/5 after Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat’s two-wicket haul demolished Bangladesh early in the innings at Tea on Day One of the second Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Mominul Haque’s scorching 65-ball innings helped Bangladesh post 184/5 at Tea on Day One, giving them a solid standing. Mominul Haque was unbeatable at 65 when tea was served, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was at 4.

India made a strong start when the innings was resumed at 82/2 when Umesh Yadav bowled Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan for 16 off 39. Mushfiqur Rahim, a right-handed batter, then walked out to bat and smashed Mohammed Siraj for two stunning fours.

Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim continued their strong play by pushing Bangladesh’s score above 100 runs in the 37th over. After that, Mushfiqur swung openly at Ravichandran Ashwin, hitting back-to-back three-fours to score 14 runs in his over. Mominul hit back-to-back fours against Jaydev Unadkat’s pitch in the game’s 39th over.

Unadkat, though, ended Bangladesh’s much needed partnership stand by dismissing Mushfiqur with a superb delivery, leaving the hosts reeling at 130-4. Mominul hammered some strong and gutsy strokes as he slammed Unadkat by scoring two fours despite being four down. Mominul reached his fifty-first delivery off 78 deliveries with an incredible four on the final ball of the game’s 43rd over.

Along with Mominul, Bangladeshi batsman Litton Das pounded Siraj for 12 runs, including six and four. Das, though, was removed by Ashwin after making 25 off of 26 deliveries, ending his time at the crease. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was at 4* while Mominul maintained the display and was unbeaten at 65.

On the opening day of the second test, Bangladesh defeated India by a score of 82 runs, losing two wickets, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Shakib Al Hasan and Mominul Haque were responsible for this performance. Mominul hit 23 runs as Shakib stayed undefeated at 16, looking intent on scoring big on his homecoming. India’s wickets came from Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat.

Bangladesh made a strong start against India by choosing to bat. In the opening hour of play, openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan successfully received the new ball and displayed excellent play. For the first wicket, they combined for a partnership of 39 runs. On a tough green pitch, they appeared fluid and eliminated the early threat the Indian bowlers presented. The pair appeared to be headed for a massive score, but return player Unadkat continued to probe to confuse the batters.

The left-arm bowler struck first for India, producing a stunning edge off Hasan that Rahul caught in the slips.

The game’s turning point came when Unadkat, who was playing in his first Test, dismissed Zakir Hasan for 15. The pacer had previously dismissed the centurion from the previous game for 15. In the following over, Ravichandran Ashwin removed Shanto, dealing the Bangladeshi squad a double blow. He was out for 24 runs after the spinner caught him square in front of the wickets.

Shakib and Mominul’s third-wicket partnership made sure the hosts didn’t lose any more wickets. The first session was played on a difficult surface with some grass, and both sides will be pleased with how they performed. Despite the danger posed by the Indian seamers during their opening spell, the hosts were fortunate to have the ball fall in open areas after finding the edge a few times. Kuldeep Yadav left the team earlier than expected to make room for pacer Jaydev Unadkat.

Brief Score: Bangladesh 184/5 (Mominul Haque 65*, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 4*; Jaydev Unadkat 2-40) vs India.
