India, China Agree To Maintain Security, Stability Along LAC

Guwahati: India and China convened the 17th Corps Commander Level Meeting at the Chushul-Moldo border crossing point on the Chinese side on December 20 and decided to keep the Western Sector secure and stable.

“In the interim, the two sides agreed to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the Western Sector,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

According to the MEA statement, the two sides agreed to keep in close contact, maintain communication through military and diplomatic channels, and resolve any outstanding concerns as soon as possible through a mutually acceptable manner.

“Building on the progress made after the last meeting on 17th July 2022, the two sides exchanged views on the resolution of the relevant issues along the LAC in the Western Sector in an open and constructive manner,” the ministry added.

The two sides had an open and thorough discussion while adhering to the direction given by the State Leaders to work toward the earliest resolution of the outstanding issues, which would aid in the restoration of peace and tranquilly along the LAC in the Western Sector and allow for advancement in bilateral relations.

The Corps Commander Level Meeting is now in its seventeenth round following the most recent border clash in the Yangtse region of the Tawang sector. On December 9, PLA troops attempted to unilaterally alter the status quo in the Yangtse region of the Tawang sector by violating LAC.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed both Houses of Parliament about the incident and said that Indian forces resisted the Chinese effort with firmness and resolve.

The violent altercation that followed resulted in the Indian Army valiantly stopping the PLA from invading our territory and forcing them to return to their stations.

A few people on both sides of the fight were hurt as a result of the altercation. He let both Houses know that there had been no fatalities or significant injuries on the Indian side.

The quick action of Indian military leaders allowed the PLA forces to return to their original positions. The local commander in the region conducted a flag meeting with his counterpart on December 11 to discuss the situation in light of established procedures.

The Chinese side was urged to avoid from taking such activities and keep the border area calm and peaceful. The problem was raised with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels, the defence minister added.
