China’s National Health Commission Discontinues Publication of Daily Covid-19 Statistics

Guwahati: China’s National Health Commission (NHC) which previously published the country’s Covid-19 case data every day beginning on Sunday will no longer be providing the information.

“China’s National Health Commission (NHC) will stop publishing daily COVID-19 case data from Sunday. Instead, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention will release COVID-related info for study and reference,” NHC said in a statement.

The National Health Commission posted the Covid-19 case numbers on Friday on its website on Saturday.

However, there were no new fatalities 4,128 new confirmed infection cases were recorded on the mainland of China.

On December 23, 28,865 people who had close contact with infected patients were released from medical monitoring, while 1,760 patients who had been treated were discharged from the hospital.

The action was taken in response to a Radio Free Asia report that suggested Covid-19 may have infected approximately 250 million people in China in just 20 days following the relaxation of the “zero-covid policy” during the first week of the month.

Approximately 17.65% of China’s population, or 248 million individuals, contracted Covid-19 between December 1 to December 20, according to stolen official documents that have been making the rounds on social media.

According to Radio Free Asia, the statistics on COVID instances that government officials presented on December 20 differs from the actual number since it was estimated that there were roughly 37 million cases.

A prominent Chinese journalist told Radio Free Asia that the document was real and had been intentionally leaked by a meeting attendee acting in the public’s best interest on Thursday.

According to British-based health data company Airfinity, there are estimated to be over one million illnesses and over 5,000 deaths every day in China.
